THE WINTER WARRIORS

I began my cycling adventures on my Mum’s three-speed shopping bicycle when England was in lockdown in Spring 2020. The goal of that first ride was to deliver a cake to a friend three miles away who was working on the frontline of the pandemic for the NHS. With a group of likeminded friends I continued with local cycling adventures and upgraded the bike first to a second hand mountain bike and then to a £600 road bike. As the Summer turned to Autumn that year we imagined we would stop for the season when it got too cold. What we learnt, though, was that there was no such thing as too cold, only too under-dressed, and at the end of 2020 the Winter Warrior cycling group was born. In 2021 the goal was to complete the Dunwich Dynamo, a 200km night ride from Hackney, London to the East Coast. In 2022 I rode Chase the Sun South solo and unsupported, completing the epic 205 coast-to-coast challenge 30 minutes before sunset.
